Kathleen M. Howland, Ph.D.
For over 25 years, Kathleen M. Howland has sought to understand the effects of music on the mind and body. She has synthesized information from the fields of neurology, psychology, child development and anthropology to better understand the importance of the arts to our human potentiality. As a music therapist, she has over 25 years of experience with disabilities that impact cognition, language, speech, movement and emotions. She maintains a private practice in music and speech therapy and is an Adjunct Faculty member of the Boston Conservatory, Berklee College of Music, Boston University and Lesley University. She holds professional credentials in music therapy (MT-BC) with specialized training in Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT). She maintains licensing credentials in speech therapy (CCC-SLP). She is a graduate of Emmanuel College with a B.M. in Music Therapy and the University of South Carolina with an M.S.P. (Master’s in Speech Language Pathology) and Ph.D., specializing in music and cognition.
